My OBU story

Today is Ouachita Baptist University's Founder's Day and they created a "blog about" day in order to celebrate. Here is my OBU story.

My Ouachita story is probably very different from most. I decided to attend OBU my senior year of high school because OBU had offered me a vocal music scholarship. I was so impressed by the music program at Ouachita and esatic even thinking about being a part of it. However, after a semester of majoring in music I knew it was not for me. I eventually switched to Dietetics and Nutrition in hopes of becoming a registered dietitian one day.

Academics is only a part of my experience at Ouachita. My freshman year I tried out for cheerleading and made the team and cheered my freshman, sophomore, and junior years. I loved cheering at OBU. I had the chance to make some great friends and enjoy all the sports of Ouachita.

Ouachita gave me the opportunity to try all kinds of new things like pageants. I had so much fun getting to know other girls and developing life long skills like how to respond in interview situations through experiences like this.

Ouachita also provided me the opportunity to grow in my spiritual life. I will never forget some of the “noondays” that really helped center my mind on Christ. I had the privilege of traveling to Africa with Campus Ministries where we had the chance to go into schools in Africa and teach about Christ. I also took the opportunity to travel to Panama (the country) and hike up the mountains to share Christ with people who had never ever heard of Him before; it was an unbelievable experience that changed my life forever.

My blogging about OBU would not be complete without mentioning the lasting friendships I made during my time there. My freshman year, I joined Chi Delta social club and had the honor of being a Kappa Chi 'lil sis' and there I made lifetime friends! Along with friendships I also learned so much about leadership and responsibility. I enjoyed holding many offices in Chi Delta my favorite being Tiger Tunes director!

The summer before my senior year I met my husband Adam, he lived in Memphis and so we had a long distance relationship (during Tiger Tunes season!) I decided after my first semester as a senior that I did not think I wanted to work in a hospital or be a dietitian and so I decided to transfer back to Memphis. I transferred to Crichton College and finished there a year later with a general degree with emphasis in Nutrition.

I got married the summer of ’06 and got my personal training and nutrition counseling licenses and then decided to attend Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. After attending graduate school for a short time I was offered a short term teaching position at my former high school. I enjoyed teaching bible to 7th grade students and through this experience realized my love for teaching. I got pregnant and had my first daughter Annabelle Joy Fisher in ‘08. Shortly after having Annabelle, my husband, Adam was offered a job as a worship leader for a new church plant in Marysville Ohio. We moved to Ohio in January of ’09 and had another baby girl in December of ’09. We love living in Ohio because the need for gospel is so prevalent here; we enjoy talking and sharing Jesus with people as much as we possibly can.

I feel like a day of blogging cannot do my experience at Ouachita justice; there are so many more stories and pictures. Nothing has shaped my life as much as my experience at OBU. I would not trade my time there for anything in the world. I am so thankful for all the things the lasting friendships that I made and the experiences I had there. Thanks OBU for the wonderful memories!

Presley Pickett turns 1!

On Saturday, I woke up went to get Adelyn out of bed and saw more snot than I have ever wanted to see in my whole lifetime. We have all had colds for a while now, which I am starting to think might be allergies?! Anyway, I knew Adelyn would not be able to come on our adventure to see Miss Presley Pickett eat her first bite of cake. I am sad that Adelyn couldn't be a part and even more sad that I had to leave my baby when she was sick but I decided that it was ok because she was going to be with her daddy and I knew he would love on her and do the best he could to take care of her. So, here are Annabelle and I about to get in the car to make our 2 1/2 hour drive to Burlington, KY for Presley's first birthday party.

The beautiful family. If I did not know Brit I would think she wa sa super model...you know what I mean? She is just one of those naturally beautiful people and one you cannot be jeaous of because she is too sweet.

This is Bethany (Brit's sis), Presley, me and Annabelle just hanging out eating carrots!

and this is the birthday cake. Britney made it herself, can you believe it? I couldn't! She said it took 2 days to make!! What a trooper!!

and Presley just like her mama LOVED that chocolate cake!! I have to insert story here. Brit was my college roomate from freshman year to middle of my junior year when she left for nursing school. Brit always had the funniest eating habits. Many times she would wake up and eat brownies or a candy bar for breakfast; I have no doubt that Presley will love choclate just as much as her mama especially after watching her devour her first b-day cake.

Sweet fam. Brit did a great job of being laid back about all the mess. I was proud fo her! :)

Annabelle enjoyed herself some cake too!

This is Annabelle giving Presley a kiss. How sweet!

Us with our babies (minus Adleyn :( )

Annabelle ran around like crazy since she had been in the car for 2 1/2 hours.

She also loved wearing the Hula shirt

and in pure Annabelle style had to try on as many lays as she possibly could!

When we got back in the car she was pooped from playing and missing her nap that day. I thought for sure she wouldn't fall asleep (especially with Dora playing on the Dvd player) but I was wrong and I was so glad she slept because it took 3 1/2 hours on the way home because of a wreck.

I was dying to get back to my sick baby; daddy had done a great job taking care of her of course. I let Annabelle stay up later than usual because she had taken a nap at 5:00 pm and I knew there was no way she would go to bed at 8:00 so she stayed up and watched the hogs play! She also got a little sticker happy.

I am missing my camera so much. I left it in Memphis and someone is bringing it to me tomorrow! yah! I cannot wait to stop taking all my pictures with my iphone!

Adam and I watching the game! We were so glad Arkansas won! yah!!

I was also very glad Annabelle and I made the visit to Presley's birthday party. I wish we could have stayed a visited longer, I feel like there is never enough time, but I knew I would die if I didn't get to see my sick baby before she went to sleep that night.

I can't believe Presley is already one. I posted a picture of when she was born on the next post. Wow. How time flies!!

Happy 1st b-day Presley! I love you, Aunt Ashley!!

Whoooooo PIG SOOIE!!

Annabelle picked up on how to call the hogs pretty quick; daddy was SUPER proud! :)

Funny story, one night we were in small group for our church and I had a Razorback t-shirt on and I was telling everyone we were going to have to teach AB to call the hogs soon and I proceeded with, "Whoooo Pig Sooie." Someone (whose name goes unmentioned) said, "You guys don't really say 'pig sooie' do you???"

These Ohioans have a lot to learn!!!! :)

The razorbacks are looking good tonight, looks like it could be a super exciting season this year! We sure are excited at our house!

The sweetest sounds I have ever heard!

Annabelle has really started talking lately. This phase is my absolute favorite right now. I just wanna drop life and pick her up every single time she says it!

Adelyn has also recently started "talking" and we joke about her sweet little voice because she grunts a lot and sounds like she should have such a raspy voice but she doesn't at all!

Adam took a hilarious video of the girls in the bath tub tonight. For some reason they both start screaming and crying right now when we put them in the bath tub. I know it is just a phase (at least I hope and a short one I hope too.) It is sooo bad that it is funny; I just cannot decide if it's posting material. :) Anyway, off to watch a movie with Adam!! I'm so excited about going to Cinncinati for Presley's b-day party tomorrow! I need lots of rest for my trip!! Sooo Goodnight!

August Memphis Trip Part 1

We had company (@evanlogan) Ok. I just have to insert a story here. I just joined twitter (@ashleyeafisher) and I LOVE it! Kelly said I would be addicted and she was sooo right; I am big time! So anyway, before I joined twitter Adam and I brought up a couple of times why in the world everyone thought it was cool to call everyone else @and their name. We thought it was so silly...until....I got on twitter and we figured out that this is people's twitter names. haha...we were just clueless! Gotta love our ignorance of Twitter! So back to my original story, we had company and so we had been staying up way to late and still had to get up so early with the girls and so we were just sooo tired getting on the rode early. We left early because our plan was to get to Memphis in enough time for us to visit with my parents and then go to Adam's parents to see his family all before 7:00 Memphis time when the girls go to sleep!

The Cincinnati skyline. I was sooo wishing I could stop and see Miss Presley and her mama at that point but we couldn't stop because again we had to make it in time to see both parents!

Sweet Adelyn slept a bit.

and Annabelle played, colored, read, and watched DVD's.

What a cute smile.

We found some McDonald's on the way; which were a much needed relief (although Adam only let us stay for about 10 minutes max!)

and finally...

slept a bit.

When we got there Annabelle was more than ready to get out of the car! She had a blast playing in the driveway.

Annabelle tried playing basketball with daddy.

Gigi, Gepaw, Annabelle, and Adelyn

Gigi and her girls!

On Friday morning, Adam and I got up and went to breakfast (sans kiddos!) with the Nuckolls! We had so much fun talking and catching up in person! We love them!!

After that, we went to the church we last served in FBCOB to a consignment sale! I found some GREAT stuff for Annabelle for winter AND

I got to see some old friends. This is Mrs Jill; she was one of my favorite people at FBCOB! I miss her!

I also got to see Miss Molly Mills. She was DRIVING!! I couldn't believe it because I taught her in 7th and 8th grade Sunday School and now she is all grown up!! I really enjoyed seeing her!

I got to hold sweet Braley when we got to Memphis. I had never met this little doll before and every time I held her she just fell right to sleep! I loved it!! She was just the most precious!!

Annabelle and I ran to Target to get some things for the 40 or so people that were coming for dinner.

Adelyn played at the house while we were gone. This was before she got sick.

On Friday, (I think) Jess and her sweet little girl Kaylee came over to play! Jess is so sweet; she is 38 weeks pregnant and she came to me which just made my day! I also just adore her little girl. We had babies 3 months apart and always discuss the phases we are going through with our girls and it really helps having a friend like her to relate to! Also, she is having another girl so our lives continue to parallel!! I love it!

Kaylee and Adelyn

Kaylee and Annabelle. Isn't that curly hair the cutest!!!!

I am so glad we made it to Memphis and that I got to see my sweet friend and her doll of a little girl Kaylee. I left my camera in Memphis so I got a few pictures in between here of some other things so I will have to do another post on that later. My type 'a'ness does like that but oh well...life goes on!! :) Many more posts on Memphis to come!

Brunch in the Park & Spelling Ab's name

Today we went to "Brunch in the Park" as one of our church's group play dates. It was really fun! I left my camera in Memphis so all these pictures were taken with my Iphone but they aren't all that bad. The picture above is Annabelle before we left. I let Adelyn nap until I got everything in the car and then I went and got her and put her right in the car; she just does better if she gets some sort of nap before we go out in the mornings.

Annabelle loves watermelon but I do not like it and so we never have it so she ate her heart out of some watermelon and I was glad because I know it was soo good for her!

Some of the kiddos playing. Annabelle LOVED the big sandbox; she had sand everywhere, even in her diaper!!

I just enjoyed so much watching her have so much fun; I hardly even cared about how messy she was! :)

Here are the two little buggaboos when we got home.

We decided to have a tea party this afternoon and the girls had theirs and I had a mommy tea party with my McDonalds half and half tea and my fitness mag (thanks to my sweet friend mrs. nuckolls!)

and last but not least, Adam suggested that I try to teach Annabelle how to spell her name since she is doing so good with her letter and so here in the beginning of the process. I love the "l"s. :)
