One Day at a Time

Serenity Prayer

God, give us grace to accept with serenity

the things that cannot be changed,

Courage to change the things

which should be changed,

and the Wisdom to distinguish

the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,

Enjoying one moment at a time,

Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,

Taking, as Jesus did,

This sinful world as it is,

Not as I would have it,

Trusting that You will make all things right,

If I surrender to Your will,

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,

And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.

Living One Day at a Time

I came across this version of the Serenity Prayer at a local store today, and it truly stopped me in my tracks. It’s so beautiful, isn't it? The words, living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, have been on my heart a lot lately. They feel like such a gentle yet powerful reminder to stay present and truly savor life, moment by moment.

For me, adopting this mindset has been transformative. Instead of falling into the trap of anxious thoughts about tomorrow or resentment over life’s challenges, I’ve been trying to embrace today exactly as it is. It’s not always easy, but when I manage to stay grounded, there’s a peace and clarity that settles over even the busiest or most difficult moments.

It’s not about ignoring the hard things but about leaning into trust in God and presence. Living in the moment means choosing gratitude over worry and finding beauty in the small, quiet details of each day.

Do you find certain practices or habits help you stay grounded in the present? For me, things like taking a few deep breaths, journaling, or even just stepping outside for a moment to feel the sun on my face can make all the difference.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on what keeps you rooted in the here and now?

I’m so grateful that the promise really is that we will be reasonably happy in this life but supremely happy with Jesus in the next.
