PREPARE
This is the age we have been entrusted to by our God to PREPARE us for His best when the world is at its worst.
He wants to PREPARE before us, in us, and through us.
In the NIV “prepare or prepared” is used 148 times throughout the bible and in the ESV 155 times! WOW! It must be a pretty important word and concept!
1) God has a Glorious Preoccupation with Preparation
DIAGRAM (Hopefully I'll have this up tomorrow.)
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 We are God’s workmanship- his master piece and artistry
2)The first setting of prepare in the bible is the table
In the NIV “prepare or prepared” is used 148 times throughout the bible and in the ESV 155 times! WOW!
12 out of the first 15 talk about a meal of some sort.
Genesis is 18 talks about Jesus eating a meal with Abraham, his wife, and two angels.
36 straight times the word “prepare is mentioned after this it has to do with an offering.
Meal and Offering connect both in the sense of fellowship. The meal is a fellowship with family while the offering was a way in the Old Testament to connect with God In the Old Testament one could not have this fellowship with sacrifice of an animal in the New Testament and now we can have this fellowship because of Christ’s sacrifice.
The ESV puts the words “food” and “offering” together as “food offering” 45 times and a lot of those times makes reference to them being a “pleasing aroma to the Lord.” (This phrase used 40 times in the NIV. The picture is of having a family meal where when you walk in the house, everything smells so good everyone has a sense of the wonderful feast that is coming. The same is with God: He is looking forward to the celebration. This website explains it like this:
At His return, in the Rapture at the end of the Great Tribulation, Jesus will come back to catch away His Bride, His church, out of the evil clutches of the Enemy and then whisk them away to the grandest, most glorious and thrilling wedding party that's ever been held, the great Marriage Supper of the Lamb in Heaven! We will be taken out of this old world to the great Wedding Feast, the Grand homecoming Party, the Celebration of the Victory! The Bible calls it the "Marriage Feast of the Lamb" because it will be the great Wedding of the Bride, His Bride--all believers, the entire true Church of God, the true believers in Christ, all of them counted as one great Bride though it be composed of millions--marrying Jesus at this great celebration in Heaven, this great Wedding Feast, this great party!
Isaiah 25
God Will Swallow Up Death Forever
1O LORD, you are my God;
I will exalt you; I will praise your name,
for you have done wonderful things,
plans formed of old, faithful and sure.
2For you have made the city a heap,
the fortified city a ruin;
the foreigners’ palace is a city no more;
it will never be rebuilt.
3 Therefore strong peoples will glorify you;
cities of ruthless nations will fear you.
4 For you have been a stronghold to the poor,
a stronghold to the needy in his distress,
a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat;
for the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall,
5 like heat in a dry place.
You subdue the noise of the foreigners;
as heat by the shade of a cloud,
so the song of the ruthless is put down.
6 On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. 7And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. 8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. 9It will be said on that day, "Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation." 10For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain, and Moab shall be trampled down in his place, as straw is trampled down in a dunghill. 11 And he will spread out his hands in the midst of it as a swimmer spreads his hands out to swim, but the LORD will lay low his pompous pride together with the skill of his hands. 12And the high fortifications of his walls he will bring down, lay low, and cast to the ground, to the dust.
Sacrifice doesn’t mean anything without thanksgiving:
Psalm 50:14-15 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me."
3) The next major setting of prepare is the “offering.”
Change is not only possible, it is what He wants for us for His glory.
Their is a call for us to work with diligence toward what He has called us to do:
1 Timothy 1:12- I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.
What do you want your life to be about? Run toward that!! Because you can only do a few things with excellence, we must choose. We must seek God and ask what He would have for us to do and focus on that!
And when you find what that purpose is...a lot of times Satan will be after you, to distract you from it by sin or other “good things” that take up your time. Also, sometimes Satan’s hardships are placed on us because we have a purpose. (I think not only to hone us in, but to prove to ourselves what we are about and to strengthen our faith in God.)
2 Timothy 3:14-17-But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Psalm 19:7-9
7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
and all of them are righteous.
We MUST be firmly planted in the word of God!
more to come...I wish I could just hear it all over again, my notes just don't do it all justice (except the word of God of course!)
