Love, believing the best...

Love is ever ready to believe the best of every person.... 1 Corinthians 13:7

Have you ever read a person totally wrong and later found out they didn’t think or feel how you thought they did? I have! In fact, I think I do it often. On the personality test, I am a thinker, an analyzer and I analyze people all.of.the.time.

I do it to my husband. He is quiet and I assume he is upset. I do it to my friends. A friend doesn’t text me back and I assume they are mad at me.

Instead of having this attitude toward people, I want God to teach me to always give people the benefit of the doubt, to be “ever ready to believe the best in every person.” This is easy for me to do with people that are like me, the challenge comes when I am in a situation with a person who doesn’t have my personality and/or wouldn’t say or react the way I would in a situation.

The truth is, God made everyone unique. There are endless amounts of combinations of personalities and I am not only called to love or believe the best in the people similar to me; I am given this command is to love and believe the best in everyone.

His word says, if I can speak many languages in the Spirit, if I have the gift of interpreting His divine will for myself and others, if I understand all the secret truths and mysteries, possess all knowledge and have enough faith to move mountains but I do not have God’s love in me, to think the best in people, I am a useless nobody. (1 Corinthians 13)

Oh may I learn to be more like Him in the way I think and filter life and may my love for others, in desperately desiring to believe the best, show the world the Jesus inside of me.
