Video Voyeurism

Video Voyeurism is a rising crime. With the standard of technology increasing every day, the opportunities to commit this crime are becoming more prevalent and the availability for the equipment to commit this crime is cheap and easy to obtain.
The statistics say 1 in 4 people are sexually abused but I have believe abuse happens to more people than it doesn’t these days. This truth saddens not only me but also the heart of God. (Psalm 140:12; Psalm 103:6; Psalm 146:7) Unfortunately, there are many types of abuse. In October 2011 I found out I was a victim of the crime of Video Voyeurism.
In many instances when men are caught video raping, it is a place where they do not know their victims personally but often times a voyeur stalks his victims and manipulates situations in order to video their victims. In my case, I didn't necessarily have a funny feeling any of the times I was filmed, but I did have many red flags about the person with which we were friends. It is important as women for us to give attention to our woman's intuition and/or feelings of discernment we have about a man or a situation importance.
Video Voyeurism or Video Rape is often not given the importance or attention it deserves. Men who commit this crime often escalate to other crimes and victims are left with the emotional repercussions of being raped.
It is my heart's desire to raise awareness of this growing crime in order to make innocent people aware of this danger. Not to make people paranoid but to encourage women who sometimes may believe they are being judgmental or overreacting, the courage to step out of a situation that doesn’t feel right to them for whatever reason.
By God’s grace, My husband and I are also fighting to increase the punishment for this crime. There are many websites that sell and trade voyeur videos and this is not a crime in most states. We believe that by fighting for harsher laws and punishments (and in some cases just simply fighting for laws for video voyeurism) we are saving future victims from the same personal devastation we have had to suffer.
We are thankful for the Lord. We know we would have never made it through this journey without Him and His constant love, encouragement from His word, and His absolute faithfulness to us despite our failures.
