Thankful Tuesday

My alarm didn't go off this morning and I didn't get to do the things I normally do in the morning which kinda put me off a little bit. From there, the day just got more interestesing and through a series of events I found myself realizing that the enemy was trying to steal my joy for today.

The bible says, "The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy." John 10:10 He tries most often in my life to steal my joy, kill my marriage, and destroy my testimony in various ways.

But the last part of that verse says, "But I (Jesus) have come that they may have LIFE and have it to the full." Life in the original language means: the state of one who is possessed of vitality or is animate, of the absolute fulness of life, life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ..."

After my day wasn't exactly going how I would have liked, this thought popped into my head: IT'S MY CHOICE... I can let the enemy win today and steal my joy or I can choose life. This verse came to mind:

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. Deut 30:19

It was as if the Holy Spirit was saying to me, "Ashley, choose life today."

The girls exposition of the bible puts it like this:"therefore choose life, that thou and thy seed may live; that is, prefer obedience to the word, and choose to perform that, the consequence of which is life; that they and their posterity might live comfortably and happily, quietly and safely, and constantly, even to the latest ages, in the land of Canaan. "

The land of Canaan was the Israelites "promise land" or "land of rest." God promises me this rest if I choose life in Him.

I heard rest described like this: "Rest is uniting the word with faith and living in it in that very moment." Kay Arthur. It has nothing to do with circumstances.
Rest is a choice I make to believe God's word and trust His promises that moment.

What comforting thoughts of this Thankful Tuesday.

Today I am thankful for the Life I have through Christ. I'm thankful that He somehow lets me make the choice and promises this life to the full!!
